Process Management

Process management is helpful in clarifying complex or comprehensive processes and making them transparent. A functioning process management helps to clearly structure the processes in the company, to show responsibilities and dependencies and to create the basis for process key figures or risk management.

Management and reduction of interfaces, standardization, an overall view of the processes in the company, elimination of process chains that do not add value or the abolition of unnecessary regulations are just some of the points that can be implemented through process management. However, process management should never be an end in itself, but the question "Why am I doing this?" should always be in the foreground.

A process analysis can be presented as follows:

What is being done?

Who is responsible?

How is work done and which systems are used?

Who are the process participants? Teams / stakeholders / individuals

Where are there process dependencies or interfaces?

Where is which data documented?

Which anomalies can be identified?

Kill a stupid rule!


In other words: Who does what, when, how, with what and for what purpose?


The goal of process management is to increase efficiency, effectiveness and transparency within the company.

At the same time, the documentation of processes helps to ensure compliance.

The continuous monitoring and optimization of processes helps to ensure the status quo at a high level of quality and to continuously align optimally with customer needs.


A process can be defined as follows:

A process has a beginning and an end and represents a sequence of individual process steps. The process can have one or more triggers (input channels) and has a defined output. The process can be measured by unique metrics and thus aligned with process objectives. The process has one or more customers and a process owner.


Process management should always be aligned with the strategic goals of the company and create added value to achieve the goals. Otherwise, it is only a documentation tool that quickly become superfluous.


In this context, the clarification and design of the assignment is indispensable. The establishment of process management provides a great deal of knowledge, but it is also a rather costly process that must be firmly anchored in the company.
